Organised by Wellington community stalwarts Mal & Scotty (of S&M’s Bar), The Life and Times of Georgina Beyer, a tribute to the world’s first transgender MP was held at Wellington’s Embassy Theatre on Tuesday 18 July.
The star-studded event included in-person speeches from Finance Minister Grant Robertson and Dame Catherine Healy, as well as video tributes from Sir Ian McKellen and former Prime Minister Helen Clark. Drag Queens Polly Filla and Miss Kola performed as part of the celebration, which was peppered with emotional recollections and reflections.
