Grammy award-winning artist Billie Eilish has witnessed a significant drop in her Instagram following, losing approximately 100,000 followers after recently coming out.
Eilish, renowned for hits like “Ocean Eyes,” had a following of over 110 million on Instagram before the interview. During the conversation for Variety’s Power of Women issue, Eilish opened up about her attraction towards women, stating, “I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real.”
After these comments, her Instagram followers decreased to 110,200,603 as of December 3, marking a loss of 100,000 since the interview. This decline accelerated following her attendance at Variety’s Hitmakers event on December 2, where she responded to a red-carpet question about her coming out by saying, “I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?’”
Billie Eilish, known for her powerful musical presence and candid personality, expressed her surprise that her sexuality wasn’t already apparent to her fans. Despite the dip in followers, Eilish remains a dominant figure on social media, with a massive base of over 110 million followers.
This incident is not the first time Eilish has faced a sudden loss of followers. In a previous instance, she lost a similar number of followers after a British Vogue cover shoot featuring her in a corset. Addressing that incident, she commented to Elle magazine, “I lost 100,000 followers just because of boobs. People are scared of big boobs.”
Billie Eilish’s authenticity and openness about her personal life, including her sexuality, continue to define her as an artist who values honesty over popularity. Despite the loss, Eilish maintains a strong and supportive fan base, unshaken by her personal revelations or fashion choices.
