Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull (Posie Parker) and her newly formed political party have failed to secure any seats in the UK’s recent local election.
Having finally registered the party in February 2023 after two rejections from the Electoral Commission, Parker’s party fielded five candidates across the UK in the elections held on 2 May 2023.
In Stockport’s Davenport and Cale Green ward, Tara Hughes managed 139 votes, placing her significantly behind the fifth-place candidate, Nathan Lumb of the Conservative Party, who had a 127-vote lead over her. Similarly, in Lincoln’s Park and Minster wards, candidates Sarah Freeman and Esther Knight both finished sixth. Freeman ended up nine votes short of overtaking Reform UK’s Ben Jackson, and Knight was just one vote behind the Liberal Democrat’s Aidan Turner.
Further results showed Sally James in fourth place in the Wolverham ward in Ellesmere Port, trailing behind candidates from larger parties. In Wolverhampton, Charlotte Hawkins garnered 161 votes in the Fallings Park ward, which placed her third, not enough to secure a seat, despite outpacing the Liberal Democrat’s Peter Nixon.
Despite not winning any seats, Parker remained optimistic about the party’s future, highlighting on X their competitiveness to established parties like the Liberal Democrats and the Greens with minimal campaign resources. “We had four weeks and little budget for our campaigns, getting numbers close to Lib Dems and greens is a staggering achievement,” Parker noted.
Parker’s engagement in political activities extended beyond the elections, having recently travelled to Edinburgh to host a “Let Women Speak” rally intended to challenge Scotland’s new hate crime legislation. The event was met by a robust counter-protest organised by pro-transgender group Cabaret Against the Hate Speech (CAHS), which brought lively opposition with music and dance.
