Auckland’s Aotea Centre is set to host an evening that blends cinema and live music as the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra presents Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Live in Concert. This special evening offers the chance to experience Ang Lee’s iconic martial arts film with the power of a 70-piece orchestra performing its Oscar®-winning score live.
Presented by Film Concerts Live! in collaboration with Sony Pictures Classics, the event will feature Tan Dun’s celebrated score, which won the Academy Award® for Best Original Score, and promises to bring an added layer of intensity and emotion to the film, enhancing its already dramatic and visually stunning narrative.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, a landmark in martial arts cinema, tells the story of legendary warrior Li Mu Bai (Chow Yun-Fat) and his love for Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh). The plot thickens when the Green Destiny sword is stolen by the ambitious Jen Yu (Zhang Ziyi), setting off a chain of events that deeply affects all those involved.
Conducted by Maestro David Kay, the evening is designed to be an unforgettable experience for both fans of the film and those seeking a night of exceptional music and cinematic artistry. “Tan Dun’s score is a powerful work that stands on its own, and we look forward to sharing this special evening with you during the Year of the Dragon,” says Kay.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Live in Concert will be presented in its original Mandarin version with English subtitles, enabling audiences to fully appreciate its rich cultural context.
Tickets are now available for this must-see event that combines the magic of cinema with the grandeur of live orchestral music.
