A pool is not only a pleasure, it’s an investment. So make sure yours is kept in tip-top condition with Poolwerx.

We hadn’t been looking for a house with a pool. We wanted privacy and views, but when the midday sun hit the pools’ glistening surface at the open home, we were convinced it had to be ours! On auction day, we were lucky. But moving in during winter, it ended up being six months before we went for our first proper swim.

The South Island climate dictated that we enjoyed our pool in summer but soon retracted from the water when autumn came calling. Heating the pool with anything more than the few old solar panels on our roof seemed like a huge indulgence, until some architect friends pointed out that your pool is an asset, and to be able to make the most of it by extending the swimming season would only increase the value of our home.

We contacted Poolwerx’s Christchurch franchise, run by Mark and Michelle. Poolwerx is Australasia’s largest pool and spa maintenance network and has won numerous industry awards for its customer service and team of professionals, known for having the latest pool maintenance technology at their fingertips.

Mark & Michelle from Poolwerx Christchurch.

Mark and Michelle recommended a combination of an electrical heat pump that could work in conjunction with our existing solar system to bring the pool up to temperature, together with a made-to-measure ‘solar blanket’ pool cover to stop the heat escaping.

Poolwerx services include: spa servicing and cleaning, pool cleaning, heating and servicing, pool lighting, pool equipment repairs, filter checks, robot repairs and even the dreaded ‘green pool’ clean-up – a situation that can occur if you misjudge the chemical levels in your pool and algae begins to grow!

Once initial quotes were agreed upon, they ordered our Astral Viron HP 120 for the pool and installed it after an electrician had checked out the power supply.

Mark and Michelle were insistent we get the electrician’s confirmation before they accepted payment. We realised how grateful we were for their fastidiousness when colleagues of my partner told us that their pool company was not as thorough. They ended up paying an extra $20,000 when they realised that an additional power supply was required – halfway through installation.

Once our heat pump was installed, we were impressed at how quiet it was. Mark thoroughly calibrated it and returned to test it to ensure that it was as efficient as possible.

Our made-to-measure BMH Pool Cover was created in New Zealand, and we chose an attractive silver colour that matches the roller it sits on. Throughout the process, Mark and Michelle were enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly, despite juggling opening their new shop/showroom space at the same time.

It came as no surprise to us to learn that they had both won gold at this year’s SPASA Awards of Excellence – and at Poolwerx’s own internal awards, including Technician of the Year (Mark) and an Operational Excellence Award (Michelle). Throughout our dealings with them, Mark and Michelle offered tailored advice and solutions and exemplified Poolwerx’s values of being honest, direct and trustworthy.

Poolwerx continues to offer routine maintenance inspections that include testing the pump’s performance, settings, temperature and pressure gauges and water flow valves, as well as full diagnostic tests and system flushes.

Prior to consulting with Poolwerx, our pool was for summer use only. Now we enjoy swimming for more than half of the year. To our delight, our power bill only increased by $6 a day while our pool was getting up to temperature, which took about three days.

For all your pool needs, drop in and see Michelle and Mark at their new store on 49 Coleridge Street, Sydenham, Christchurch, or check out poolwerx.co.nz for national enquiries.
