KyivPride has announced the postponement of its Pride event, originally scheduled for November 23, which coincides with Holodomor Memorial Day.
The decision followed significant backlash from social media followers, as outlined in a statement posted on the community’s Instagram account.
Organisers admitted an oversight in failing to check the calendar before selecting the date, stating that the event was initially planned with Memorial Day in mind. However, they acknowledged the concerns raised and opted to reschedule.
“‘Queer Propaganda Fest’ is postponed. We made a mistake, so we are changing the event dates. New details, including the location and schedule, will be announced later. And we will meet with you later,” read the official statement.
The event’s postponement comes amid ongoing discussions in Kyiv about LGBTQ+ events. Previously, some residents had petitioned city authorities to cancel the LGBTQ+ parade, reflecting mixed public sentiments.
Further updates regarding the rescheduled event will be shared by KyivPride in due course.
