Inside sources tell YOUR EX magazine that there are currently no plans to begin filming a fifth season of Drag Race Down Under (DRDU).

Traditionally, casting calls for the show start in November, with filming scheduled to begin in February. However, while those timelines were delayed this year, the fourth season—released exclusively on WOW Presents Plus in New Zealand last December—wrapped without any announcement of a casting call for Season Five.

A Missed Opportunity

The lack of confirmation for a new season comes as a disappointment to fans, especially given that DRDU Season Four has been widely regarded as the best instalment of the series so far. This latest season was celebrated as the most polished showcase of Australian and New Zealand drag that the franchise has produced.

It was also a season of firsts:

  • Season Four marked the first time RuPaul herself was absent from the host’s chair. Instead, Ru’s trusted collaborator, Michelle Visage, stepped up to host, bringing her signature wit and warmth to the role.
  • For New Zealand fans, however, there was a significant downside: it was the first season of DRDU not to air on New Zealand television, despite being filmed in Auckland.

What’s Next for Down Under Drag?

With the fourth season ending on a high note, fans had hoped that momentum would carry into a fifth instalment. The absence of any official announcements has left the future of DRDU uncertain.

If this truly is the end of the Kiwi-Aussie spin-off, it will be remembered for its unique contribution to the global Drag Race phenomenon—bringing local queens, humour, and cultural flair to the international stage.

In the meantime, fans can relive the glamour, drama, and talent of Season Four with YOUR EX magazine’s exclusive interview with DRDU Season Four winner Lazy Susan, coming in our next issue out next week.
