WorldPride, established in 2000, promotes LGBTQIA+ visibility and global awareness through parades, marches, festivals, and a human rights conference. Washington, D.C., known for its rich diversity and the highest LGBTQ+ population percentage in the U.S., was chosen as the host city for the 2025 event by InterPride, the organisation behind WorldPride.

“Our membership just awarded Capital Pride the license to host #WorldPride2025. We’re thrilled for them,” InterPride announced on social media.

The Capital Pride Alliance expressed their excitement, calling the selection a chance to “share the best of D.C. with the world.” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser celebrated the announcement on her X page, describing it as “the pride of our lifetime” and an ideal way to mark 50 years of Pride in D.C.

Nationals Park, a premier venue in the nation’s capital, will serve as a dynamic backdrop for Shakira’s concert and the broader WorldPride festivities. The event’s timing aligns with a city renowned as a melting pot of cultures and ideas, providing a unique opportunity to showcase D.C.’s legacy of inclusion and activism.

With Shakira headlining the Welcome Concert, WorldPride 2025 is set to deliver an unforgettable celebration of LGBTQIA+ culture, visibility, and resilience.
