Heartstopper creator Alice Oseman is still working behind the scenes to secure a fourth season of the beloved Netflix series.
Speaking at the recent Waterstones Children’s Book Festival, Oseman provided an update on the show’s future, expressing hope for a renewal. According to fan account @heurtstopper on TikTok, Oseman reassured audiences that discussions are ongoing.
“I’m working very hard behind the scenes to get us a renewal for Heartstopper,” Oseman said. “It is still ongoing. We don’t have a final answer yet, but there are so many people behind the scenes who are working really hard to make it happen. We’re feeling optimistic. We’re feeling hopeful.”
She added, “Hopefully, we’ll be able to share some news about that sometime soon. Fingers crossed.”
What’s Next for Heartstopper?
The third season of the hit teen romance series, starring Joe Locke as Charlie and Kit Connor as Nick, aired last fall without confirmation of a fourth season. The show, based on Oseman’s webcomic and graphic novels, follows the evolving love story of two classmates at Truham Grammar School and features a diverse supporting cast, including trans girl Elle (Yasmin Finney), girlfriends Darcy (Kizzy Edgell) and Tara (Corinna Brown), and asexual and aromantic character Isaac (Tobie Donovan).
Season three also introduced Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey as an Instagram-famous influencer and Charlie’s celebrity crush.
Season 4 Could Mark the End
While fans eagerly await renewal news, Oseman has previously stated that if a fourth season happens, it will likely be the final one.
“I really, really just want to tell the end of the story on TV and bring all of those characters, their stories, to a close,” she shared on the I’ve Never Said This Before podcast in October 2024. “So fingers crossed.”
When host Tommy DiDario asked, “So four would be the end?” Oseman confirmed, “Yeah, for sure.”
With hope and anticipation from both the creator and the show’s dedicated fanbase, all eyes are on Netflix for the next update on Heartstopper‘s future.
