Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans has fiercely responded to rapper Soulja Boy after the musician launched a series of transphobic slurs against Wayans’ son, Kai, on social media.
The heated exchange erupted on X following Wayans’ earlier comments about Soulja Boy’s performance at a pro-Trump event.
The feud began when Wayans, during an interview on 101.1 The Wiz radio station in January, criticised Soulja Boy’s decision to perform at the Crypto Ball, an event celebrating Donald Trump’s inauguration. Wayans remarked that “nobody cares” about the rapper anymore and suggested he only performed to “get that cheque.”
Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, initially fired back on Tuesday (11 February) with mild insults, calling Wayans “a b**ch” and “not funny”. However, his attacks escalated over the next 48 hours, targeting Wayans’ son, Kai, a trans man, with slurs and derogatory comments.
In one post, Soulja Boy referenced Wayans’ role in White Chicks, writing: “I can’t believe I’m arguing with a na that dressed up like a white bh. Wtf is wrong with me.” He then made transphobic remarks about Kai, using slurs and making offensive comments about his gender identity.
Marlon Wayans, known for his quick wit and sharp comebacks, didn’t hold back in his responses. Addressing Soulja Boy directly on X/Twitter, Wayans wrote:
“Hey @souljaboy, you a grown man and still use the word ‘boy’ in your name. That’s what they were calling you at that event huh? Hey there Boy, can you do that dance for me? I’ll throw u a meme coin. F** outta here slappy.”*
Wayans continued to mock Soulja Boy’s career, pointing out his limited chart success with only two major Billboard hits, “Crank That” (2007) and “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” (2008):
“I respect how @souljaboy retired after them two songs. SMH so sad. If @souljaboy had a career he could get cancelled for this type of slander. Luckily, he ain’t been relevant since 2007.”
One of Wayans’ responses, which received nearly a quarter of a million likes, also referenced his son’s transition, sharing a photo of Soulja Boy shirtless with the caption:
“My child had top surgery and still has more chest than you.”
The public clash has sparked widespread support for Wayans, who has been a vocal advocate for his son, Kai. The Little Man star has openly discussed his journey to accepting and embracing Kai’s transition. In a 2023 interview on The Breakfast Club, Wayans praised his child’s courage and reflected on his own growth as a parent.
Speaking to Jennifer Hudson on The Jennifer Hudson Show last year, Wayans shared:
“Those are my babies. I went through the five stages of grief to get to the beautiful, magical place called acceptance. I learned that my family, my brothers, my sisters, have prepared me to be a rock in our family. My child is the same baby they were before—they’ve just got a beard now. Same baby.”
