A documentary celebrating the life and career of legendary drag queen The Vivienne is reportedly in production.

Titled Dear Viv, the film will pay tribute to the beloved Welsh performer who passed away in January at the age of 32.

The project is being produced by RuPaul’s Drag Race creators, World of Wonder, with the support of The Vivienne’s family. It will include archival footage and heartfelt interviews with those who knew and loved her.

Several fellow Drag Race stars, including Baga Chipz, Michael Marouli, and Danny Beard, are expected to feature in the documentary.

“We want to celebrate The Vivienne’s extraordinary life and work so everyone can experience her incredible talent, sass, and enormous heart,” World of Wonder co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey shared in a joint statement.

“Although her stay here on Earth was far too brief, it was with tremendous admiration and affection that we share her legacy in Dear Viv.”

The Vivienne, whose real name was James Lee Williams, made history as the first-ever winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2019. She later competed on All Stars 7 and gained further recognition through appearances on Dancing On Ice and a UK stage production of The Wizard of Oz.

News of the documentary comes shortly after The Vivienne was posthumously honoured at the first-ever Metro Pride Awards. Her manager, Simon Jones, alongside her father, Lee, and sister, Chanel, accepted the award on her behalf.

Speaking at the event, Lee shared: “James loved being a part of the entertainment world, and I know he would have been happy. I know he would have absolutely loved tonight’s events. While it is extremely bittersweet to be here tonight without him, being under this roof meant the world to him.

“Thank you to everyone for your huge love and support.”
