Sydney’s iconic ARQ Nightclub is set to shut its doors this month before a major rebrand, marking the end of an era for one of the city’s most beloved LGBTQ+ venues.

After 26 years as a cornerstone of Sydney’s queer nightlife, ARQ will soon transform into Aura, a new concept led by Sydney businessman Dave Auld.

While details of the new venue and its direction remain under wraps, Aura is expected to launch before the end of May, ushering in a new chapter for the Flinders Street space.

Final Farewell Parties Before Closure

Before ARQ officially closes, the venue will host two farewell parties to give patrons a final chance to celebrate its legacy:

  • Friday, March 21: ARQ’s official farewell party, featuring a classic lineup of DJs and drag stars, including Minnie Cooper, Carmen Geddit, Sia Tequila, and Etcetera Etcetera.
  • Saturday, March 22: Poof Doof Sydney’s final event at ARQ, cheekily titled “GET THE FARQ OUT,” will bring together club regulars and longtime fans for one last night before the venue shuts down.

The End of ARQ, The Beginning of Aura

Since opening in 1999, ARQ has been more than just a nightclub—it has been a pillar of Sydney’s LGBTQ+ community, providing a safe space for generations to dance, connect, and celebrate. Its closure marks the end of a significant chapter in the city’s queer nightlife.

However, the upcoming rebrand to Aura promises a new vision for the venue, with more details expected in the coming months.

For now, Sydney’s LGBTQ+ community is preparing to say goodbye to ARQ, celebrating its rich history before the doors close indefinitely.
