Beloved queer drama Heartstopper is set to return one final time — not as a new season, but as a feature-length film that will conclude the story of Nick and Charlie. The announcement was made on 22 April, marking exactly three years since the first season premiered on Netflix.

Production company See-Saw Films, which produces the series, shared the news via Instagram, stating:

“Today marks 3 years since we first said hi to Nick and Charlie on our screens, and now we’re excited to announce their love story will conclude as a feature film, going into production this summer.”

Netflix UK also confirmed the update with a post that read:

“Heartstopper will return, bigger than ever. A Heartstopper movie, our final chapter based on Alice Oseman’s upcoming volume six, is coming.”

The show’s third season aired in August 2024, leaving fans eager for confirmation of a fourth. While no season four announcement ever came, cast members, including Kit Connor (who plays Nick), had previously expressed uncertainty over the show’s future.

Now, fans can breathe a sigh of relief — Nick and Charlie’s story will get a proper send-off.

Author Alice Oseman, who created the original Heartstopper graphic novels and also serves as executive producer of the series, confirmed that they are deeply involved in the upcoming film. Although volume six of the graphic novel series is still in development, Oseman revealed that the movie script is already written.

“We are making a feature film to conclude the Heartstopper screen adaptation, based on Heartstopper Volume 6 and the Nick and Charlie novella,” Oseman posted on Instagram.

“We are getting to tell the end of the story!!! I’m deeply relieved and so excited about this new creative venture. I’ve written the script and we’re hard at work already. I know you’ll have a lot of questions, and I’ll be able to talk about it more very soon, but for now let’s CELEBRATE! Heartstopper is getting its ending!!!!!!”

While a release date for volume six has yet to be announced, the upcoming film aims to bring closure to the emotional journey of Nick (Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke), whose relationship has captured the hearts of viewers worldwide.

Despite its heartwarming tone, season three explored heavier themes such as anxiety, eating disorders, and the complexities of teenage intimacy, leaving fans hoping for a joyful conclusion to the beloved couple’s arc.

Heartstopper is currently available to stream on Netflix.
