Jennifer Coolidge has once again expressed her deep affection for the queer community, calling gay people “a superior group” during a recent red carpet appearance at the grand opening of Tryst Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.

The White Lotus star and comedy icon was speaking with People when she was asked what sets her gay fan base apart from others. Coolidge, celebrated for her allyship, humour, and outstanding body of work, had nothing but praise for her LGBTQ+ supporters.

“I don’t know, I think maybe heterosexual people are more self-conscious,” the Emmy-winning actress mused. “I think gay men and gay women just let it, just let loose and have a blast. They know how to have a really, really good, really fun time.”

Coolidge continued, saying, “They’re really original, you know… They’re, I don’t know, just a superior group of people.”

Her comments came during the launch festivities for Tryst Puerto Vallarta, a new queer-focused resort developed by Out100 honoree Tristan Schukraft.

Coolidge’s adoration for the queer community is hardly new. She has consistently celebrated her LGBTQ+ fans through memorable moments and heartfelt speeches. One of her most iconic character lines, as Tanya McQuoid in The White Lotus season two, became instantly legendary: “These gays, they’re trying to murder me,” after her character discovered a plot involving a group of affluent gay men.

At the 34th annual GLAAD Media Awards, Coolidge was honoured with the Special Recognition Award. In her acceptance speech, she quipped, “Here I am again, surrounded by gays, it’s the story of my life.”

Reflecting on her deep connection to the community, Coolidge said, “I want to give back, you know. I believe we all have the right to be who we are and to love the people that we love and tell our stories and celebrate that in every way that we can.”
