Elton John and Brandi Carlile have teamed up for a powerful new release — Who Believes in Angels?, a 10-track collaborative album blending their distinct voices and musical legacies.
Produced by Andrew Watt, the album features lyrics by John’s iconic songwriting partner Bernie Taupin and includes eight co-written tracks by John and Carlile, along with one solo song from each artist.
The album’s title track, Who Believes in Angels?, first debuted in February with an accompanying music video. Described as “a kaleidoscopic tribute to the rock & roll angels who continue to inspire successive generations,” the track pays homage to legends like Tina Turner and Little Richard, evoking classic Elton John grandeur.
Just hours before the full album dropped, the duo released a lyric video for the second track, Little Richard’s Bible, a more upbeat and energetic counterpart to the emotional title song.
To celebrate the album’s release, the pair are heading to primetime on Sunday, 6 April with An Evening With Elton John and Brandi Carlile. The concert special, produced by Fulwell Entertainment, will feature live performances, personal reflections, and a behind-the-scenes look at the album’s creation. Alongside the new songs, fans can expect performances of classics from John’s legendary catalogue, Carlile’s solo hits, and even an unreleased track from Carlile.
Filmed on 26 March at London’s Palladium Theatre during a one-night-only show, the event also includes candid conversations between the two longtime friends. At one point, John joked about his legacy, saying he doesn’t want his tombstone to reference Crocodile Rock — “nothing to do with Crocodile fucking Rock,” as he bluntly put it. He also spoke of the emotional difficulty of making music while feeling overwhelmed by world events.
“It doesn’t seem right to be trying to make a record when this horrible stuff is going on,” he reflected.
John and Carlile, whose friendship spans years, most recently collaborated on their Oscar-nominated song Never Too Late, featured in the Disney+ documentary of the same name. The film chronicles John’s groundbreaking career, culminating with his final North American performance at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
