As fans eagerly await a renewal announcement from Prime Video, Overcompensating creator and star Benito Skinner has offered a tantalising glimpse into what season 2 might explore — and it’s all about stripping away the comfort zones.

Speaking to Deadline at the Prime Experience event, Skinner opened up about where the characters might head following the dramatic season 1 finale. “What’s interesting to me about this idea of ‘overcompensation’ with these characters is that at no point do you stop doing that completely,” he said.

“I’m really inspired by the thought that if anyone has a comfort in it, or a comfort blanket, we take it away. I want to see them start over in a lot of ways, and I think that’s what that ending tells you might happen.”

While season 1 concluded with several emotional and revealing cliffhangers, Skinner hinted that the aftermath would not necessarily bring resolution but rather further personal unravelling.

“Now some truths are out there, but I don’t think you stop overcompensating even when the truth is out there,” he added, suggesting a season full of vulnerability, growth, and messy reinvention.

Skinner, who plays Benny — a fictionalised version of himself — was joined at the event by his Overcompensating co-stars Wally Baram (Carmen), Adam DiMarco (Peter), Owen Thiele (George), Mary Beth Barone (Grace), Connie Britton (Kathryn), Kyle MacLachlan (John), and executive producer Scott King.

Praising his ensemble cast, Skinner said, “This is my dream cast. The show is exactly what it needs to be. What a gift that all of these people — I’m like, ‘I wanna see you do that, and I wanna see you do that.’ That, I think, is the mark of a cast that is just right.”

Season 1 featured a parade of unforgettable guest stars, including Charli XCX, Lukas Gage, Megan Fox, Bowen Yang, Matt Rogers, Boman Martinez-Reid, James Van Der Beek, and Didi Conn, adding to the show’s vibrant and irreverent tone.

Overcompensating has rapidly built a dedicated global fanbase, with LGBTQ+ audiences in particular praising the show’s unapologetically queer storytelling and comedic honesty. With momentum building and speculation swirling, hopes for a season 2 announcement are high.

For now, fans can only rewatch, manifest, and wait.
