After years of whispers and speculation, Disney has officially confirmed that a sequel to the iconic 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada is finally on its way — and it’s set to hit cinemas on May 1, 2026.

The announcement arrives just in time for the 20th anniversary of the original film, which introduced the world to the razor-sharp Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep) and her wide-eyed assistant Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway). Set in the high-stakes world of Runway magazine, the film quickly became a pop culture phenomenon, grossing over $326 million globally and earning two Academy Award nominations — including one for Streep.

Since its release, The Devil Wears Prada has remained a cultural touchstone, spawning an endless stream of memes, quotes, and a legion of devoted fans. Now, those fans can rejoice: the fashion world’s fiercest editor is making a comeback.

While Disney has confirmed the release date, details on the cast have not yet been revealed. However, with Streep and Hathaway both still active in Hollywood — and considering the sequel’s significance — many are hopeful the duo will return.

Stanley Tucci, who played Miranda’s loyal right-hand man Nigel, previously hinted at the project during an interview with Variety. “I know they’re working on it,” he said. “If it happens, I would be so happy, but I cannot give you any information. Otherwise, I’ll go to the actor’s prison or something. [The original] was one of the best experiences ever.”

Plot details are still under wraps, but according to Puck News, the sequel may explore Miranda’s struggle to adapt to the decline of the print industry as she nears retirement. Meanwhile, Andy is said to be working with a luxury fashion conglomerate, potentially positioning her to help save the flailing Runway empire.

With fans already buzzing about the news online, and the original film’s legacy stronger than ever, anticipation is building for what’s shaping up to be one of 2026’s most fashionable returns.
