NFL defensive tackle Christian Wilkins has reportedly been released by the Las Vegas Raiders following an incident in which he kissed a teammate on the head during a team meeting, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Sources told Schefter that the kiss was “playful” in nature, but the teammate involved found it inappropriate and lodged a complaint with the Raiders’ human resources department. The team launched an internal investigation, which ultimately led to Wilkins’ dismissal.

Wilkins, 29, had only joined the Raiders for the 2024 season after signing a four-year, $110 million contract. While the kiss has been cited as the immediate reason for his departure, insiders suggest it may not have been the sole factor. The veteran player has been recovering from a Jones fracture in his foot since October 2024, which may have also contributed to the team’s decision.

Still, the timing of the release—following the incident—has raised questions about the motivations behind the move.

A Brief Career Overview

Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Christian Wilkins began his NFL career in 2019 with the Miami Dolphins, where he built a reputation as a strong and versatile defensive player. He remained with the Dolphins through 2023 before signing with the Raiders in 2024, in what was seen as a major acquisition.
