After nearly three decades of cocktails, column-writing, heartbreaks, and high heels, the Sex and the City universe is officially coming to a close. Series creator and showrunner Michael Patrick King has confirmed that the third season of And Just Like That… will be the last.

The original Sex and the City series debuted in 1998, running for six influential seasons on HBO. It was followed by two blockbuster films and then, in 2021, And Just Like That…, a sequel series that reintroduced viewers to Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as they navigated love and life in their 50s.

Now, with the third season underway, the show’s journey is reaching its final stop.

“And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end,” King shared on social media. “While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.”

King revealed that he, along with Sarah Jessica Parker, HBO’s Casey Bloys, and Sarah Aubrey, agreed to end the show with an extended season finale: two parts instead of one, bringing the final season to 12 episodes instead of the originally planned 10.

“SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season,” he added.

Sarah Jessica Parker Pays Tribute to Carrie Bradshaw

Sarah Jessica Parker, the actor who defined Carrie Bradshaw, posted a heartfelt farewell on Instagram, calling the show “all joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent.”

Reflecting on her character, Parker wrote:

“She crossed streets, avenues, Rubicons, so it seemed. She broke hearts, heels, habits. She loved, lost, won, tripped, leaped, fell short, and into puddles, aged, got wiser. She has made the hardest, worst, and best decisions.”

Parker noted that Carrie’s world—rife with friendships, romance, setbacks, and reinvention—was more than fiction; it became a rhythm in her own life.

“Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all,” Parker said. “I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned, and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion.”

She also paid tribute to Carrie’s relationships—old and new: Miranda, Samantha, Charlotte, Seema, and LTW, calling them “the most divine new connections.”

The final season of And Just Like That… will conclude with a two-part finale, promising one last walk (and probably a stiletto stumble) through Manhattan.
