AUSSIE MAFS’ Liam Cooper Announces Engagement to MAFS NZ’s Samuel Levi

Love has truly blossomed from the Married at First Sight universe: Liam Cooper, the first openly bisexual groom in MAFS Australia history, is officially engaged to MAFS New Zealand alum Samuel Levi.

Cooper, who first appeared on season 8 of the Australian series in 2020, popped the question at Hepburn Bathhouse in Daylesford, Victoria, sharing the news in a joint Instagram post with Levi.

“Who would have thought a show like Married At First Sight would have brought us and this love story together,” the couple captioned a series of photos spanning their four-year relationship — including a throwback to their first date skydiving.

Cooper added in his own post: “A day I’ll never forget. I asked my best friend, my soulmate, my forever, to marry me.” Levi echoed the joy, writing: “Still pinching myself. My best friend asked me to be his forever.”

The pair, who first got together in 2021, briefly split in 2023 before rekindling their romance in 2024. After keeping their engagement private for a while, they celebrated with a surprise party surrounded by friends.

Liam’s groundbreaking moment on MAFS

When Cooper revealed his bisexuality during MAFS Australia season 8, it sparked major conversation both on and off screen. Asked point-blank by fellow bride Rebecca Zemek if he was bisexual, Cooper replied: “I am, yeah, yeah” — a moment that left him “rattled” but also marked a milestone for bisexual visibility on the show.

His bride at the time, Georgia, initially appeared supportive, though the couple’s relationship later broke down amid doubts about his sexuality. Speaking to SBS’ Insight after the show, Cooper said the experience highlighted misconceptions about bisexuality.

“People think if you’re bisexual, you’re transitioning to gay. No. I’m attracted to women and men — that’s how it is,” he explained. “I’m monogamous. When I’m with someone, I don’t crave anyone else.”

Despite mixed reactions, Cooper has since become an advocate for bisexual visibility, speaking out against stereotypes and sharing his journey openly.

Now, his love story with Levi shows that MAFS can deliver happy endings after all — just not always on-screen.

“Congratulations on your engagement, Liam and Samuel,” fans flooded the pair’s post with messages of love.
