R&B singer Khalid has revealed details of his first album since coming out as gay, declaring that his new music is about reclaiming his identity and living openly.
The American musician, born Khalid Donnel Robinson, was outed on social media last year. He later confirmed his sexuality, stressing that he was “never hiding” and is “not ashamed.” At the time, he posted a rainbow emoji with the caption: “there yall go. next topic please lol.” When asked directly if he was gay, he replied simply: “I am! And that’s okay.”
Now, Khalid has announced his new album After The Sun Goes Down, set for release on 10 October. He says the project reflects his journey towards authenticity, self-expression and self-love.
“This chapter is about taking my power back, living in my truth, and being able to express myself freely,” Khalid shared in a press release. “I’m excited for my fans to experience this new era with me, not just musically, but personally.”
The album art has already been revealed, alongside the lead single “In Plain Sight” and its accompanying music video, which introduces a more upbeat sound than his 2024 project Sincere.
Speaking to Billboard Canada, Khalid teased that listeners can expect to see new dimensions of his artistry:
“The upcoming album is set to see not only my moody side, but the fun side. The flirty side.”
The Grammy-nominated star, best known for hits like Young Dumb & Broke and Location, is entering what he describes as a fresh era — one defined by openness, confidence and creative freedom.
