Rapper and pop icon Lil Nas X is now in treatment following his recent release from prison and not guilty plea to four felony charges, his legal team has confirmed.
The 25-year-old artist, whose real name is Montero Hill, was arrested on 21 August after police responded to reports of a man — believed to be Hill — walking down Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles wearing only white underwear and cowboy boots. According to authorities, he allegedly charged at responding officers and was taken to hospital before being booked.
Felony Charges and Bail Conditions
On 25 August, Hill was formally charged with four felonies, including three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one felony count of resisting an executive officer.
He was released from custody the following day after posting $75,000 bail and entering a not guilty plea. A judge ordered him to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week as part of his bail conditions.
Legal Team Confirms Out-of-State Treatment
At a court hearing held on Monday (15 September), Hill’s lawyers confirmed that he is now undergoing treatment outside of California.
Judge Shellie Samuels of the Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled that Hill may remain out of state “as long as he remains in treatment,” according to Rolling Stone. She added that if his care transitions to outpatient status, further court discussion would be required.
The type and nature of the treatment remain sealed from the public.
Lawyer: “We’re Doing What’s Best for Montero”
Drew Findling, Lil Nas X’s lawyer, addressed the situation in a video interview with Rolling Stone:
“Obviously, you heard the treatment word,” he said. “We’re doing what is best for Montero from a personal standpoint and a professional standpoint, but most importantly for his well-being. He is surrounded by an amazing family, an amazing team of people that care about him and love him.”
“We’re just addressing those issues. It’s really as simple as that. He’s had a great life, he’ll continue to have a great life. This is a bump that he’s gonna get over.”
Lil Nas X Breaks Silence After Arrest
Following his release, Hill shared an emotional video with fans on Instagram, offering reassurance while reflecting on the experience:
“Ya girl is gonna be OK, y’all. She’s gon’ be alright, she’s gon’ be alright. Sh*t,” he said.
“That was f**king terrifying, that was terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days, but your girl is gonna be alright.”
Hill’s next court appearance is scheduled for 18 November, with further updates on his treatment and legal situation expected at that time.
