Rapper Young Thug has sparked controversy after saying he doesn’t trust gay men who aren’t immediately open about their sexuality.
Appearing on the Perspektives with Bank podcast, he compared coming out after first presenting as straight to “ratting” someone out to police.
“Once you rat, or once you turn gay – I don’t have nothing against gay people, there are gay people who work for me – but when I look at you a certain way… if I meet you and you’re gay, it’s OK,” he said.
“But if I meet you and you’re portraying that you’re a man and you’re not gay, if I look at you like a man, and we fing bs together and doing certain s*, and I look at you in a man light, then I find out you gay, there ain’t really nothing you can say to me… I don’t look at you the same.”
‘Broke the Man Code’
Young Thug went on to accuse closeted gay men of violating what he described as the “man code.”
This is not the first time the Atlanta rapper has made comments about LGBTQ+ people.
- In 2020, he misgendered NBA star Dwyane Wade’s trans daughter in a now-deleted tweet, writing: “God don’t make mistakes.”
- In 2019, he criticised Lil Nas X after he came out as gay.
- That same year, he told LA’s Big Boy’s Neighborhood that he couldn’t possibly be gay because of his sexual history:
“People judge me, and people say, ‘gay,’ but na at one point, I probably had more hs than anyone… I’m the straightest man in the world. I hate guys. F*** are you talking about? I’m not even having a threesome with no n**a!”
