Young Sheldon’s Raegan Revord Comes Out as Non-Binary: ‘It’s So Cool’

Young Sheldon star Raegan Revord has come out as non-binary at the age of 17, describing the milestone as a full-circle moment inspired by gender-fluid celebrities before them.

Revord, best known for portraying Missy Cooper — Sheldon’s younger twin sister in The Big Bang Theory prequel — spoke about their identity in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, while also promoting their debut novel Rules for Fake Girlfriends.

“It’s so cool because growing up, whenever I would see a celebrity or whoever come out as non-binary or queer or anything, I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is so cool, I see myself in you,’” Revord explained.
“And now it’s so crazy to have that experience where I’m now that person and there might be a kid somewhere who’s like, ‘Oh my God, I see myself in you.’ And that’s such an insane thing, ’cause I was in that kid’s shoes at some point in my life.”

Although Revord updated their pronouns to they/them on social media in January, this is the first time they have publicly addressed their gender identity.

Revord starred as Missy across all seven seasons of Young Sheldon (2017–2024) and has previously appeared in Modern Family and Grace and Frankie.

Their debut novel, Rules for Fake Girlfriends (published by Wednesday Books), is a sapphic romance following Avery Blackwell, a rom-com enthusiast navigating grief, self-discovery, and a faux-relationship that may turn into something more.

Revord’s announcement has been widely welcomed by fans, who praised the young actor for embracing their authentic self while inspiring others.
