Bob the Drag Queen is heading to Broadway! The beloved drag performer and RuPaul’s Drag Race winner has announced that they will be joining the cast of Moulin Rouge! The Musical at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, with performances starting from 22 January 2026.
The exciting announcement came during the MISTR National PrEP Day Blue Carpet event at The Abbey in West Hollywood.
“It’s a big, big dream of mine,” Bob told the crowd.
“Me at 18 in Columbus, Georgia would’ve been gagging right now.”
For a performer who’s lit up stages ranging from small-town drag bars to sold-out arenas like Madison Square Garden, this Broadway debut marks a significant and long-awaited milestone in a career nearly 20 years in the making.
From College Dropout to Broadway Star
Bob’s roots in theatre run deep. “I was a really bad student. Actually, a terrible student,” they confessed.
“Yeah. I almost flunked out, but I didn’t. I dropped out.”
Despite struggling academically, their passion for performance remained unwavering. That passion eventually took Bob from Columbus, Georgia to New York City 17 years ago to pursue a dream: Broadway.
“Being on Broadway is the pinnacle of a lifelong dream,” they said.
“I’ve been everywhere, from Barracuda Bar to Madison Square Garden, but Broadway was always the goal.”
A Dream Years in the Making
Though it may seem like a stroke of luck, landing the role took years of effort and resilience.
“They actually reached out to me,” Bob admitted.
“I’m just trying to sound like a diva, but I got lucky. I did audition a lot of times and didn’t make other stuff.”
The role in Moulin Rouge! represents not just talent, but tenacity — and for Bob, it symbolises a hard-won victory and the fulfilment of a dream 18-year-old Bob could never have imagined.
The announcement was met with loud cheers at the PrEP Day event, where fans celebrated the news and the long journey behind it.
A New Stage, A Familiar Star
Bob’s presence on Broadway is set to bring charisma, talent, and authenticity to Moulin Rouge! — a perfect match for a performer known for both fierce stagecraft and heartfelt storytelling.
“It’s been a long journey, and this moment makes every bit of it worth it,” Bob said.
