Get ready for planes, trains — and stilettos — because the first-ever RuPaul’s Drag Race feature film is pulling into the station. Titled Stop! That! Train!, this herstoric movie marks the franchise’s first cinematic release and promises a riotous ride through wigs, wonder and wild high jinks.
Starring RuPaul Charles as none other than President Gagwell, and directed by musical-comedy icon Adam Shankman, Stop! That! Train! will officially hit theatres on 29 May 2026. With a star-studded cast of queens, a very queer creative team, and production by World of Wonder, Bleecker Street, and Universal Pictures Content Group — this film is already shaping up to be drag-onically iconic.
Behind the Camera: Adam Shankman’s Drag Legacy
The film is helmed by Adam Shankman, the director behind hit musicals including Hairspray (2007), The Pacifier, A Walk to Remember, Rock of Ages, and Disney’s Disenchanted (2022).
While Shankman’s mainstream resume is impressive, Drag Race fans will know him best from his turns as choreographer and guest judge on multiple Rusical challenges, including:
- “Joan: The Unauthorised Rusical!” (All Stars 8)
- “The Sound of Rusic” (Drag Race Season 16)
- “Starrbooty: The Rebooty” (All Stars 10)
Shankman shared his excitement in a statement:
“I’ve had the greatest time shooting Stop! That! Train! with some of the most hilarious and game people out there, and we can’t wait to bring it to audiences nationwide next May. I know I’ve needed to laugh now more than ever, and if you’re not howling during this one, I’m pretty sure you’re made of coal and possibly a descendant of the Grinch family!”
What’s the Plot of Stop! That! Train!?
While full plot details are still under wraps, the title hints at a madcap, high-camp adventure involving a fast-moving train, political drag satire, and all the outrageous glamour fans expect from the Drag Race universe. RuPaul’s role as President Gagwell suggests an over-the-top political angle, likely poking fun at modern chaos with a generous swirl of sequins.
And yes, expect Rusicals, runways, and ridiculousness galore.
Who’s in the Cast of Queens?
Although the complete cast hasn’t yet been announced, insiders are buzzing about a fierce mix of Drag Race royalty. The confirmed and rumoured queens are said to span multiple seasons, with fan favourites from both the US and international versions expected to appear.
This will be the first time queens from the series take the leap into a fully theatrical feature — complete with a script, choreography, and blockbuster-level production.
