Heartstopper creator Alice Oseman has provided a much-anticipated update on the upcoming film Heartstopper Forever, the final chapter in Nick and Charlie’s queer love story.
The film, expected to debut on Netflix in 2026, will wrap up the beloved LGBTQ+ series following the release of its third season in 2024.
In a heartfelt Instagram post shared on 21 December, Oseman reassured fans that while the movie is still in the works, major progress has been made — especially in picture editing.
“I know many of you are impatient for updates, but we can’t share anything from the film yet because it’s still not quite finished,” Oseman wrote. “I want you to have a spoiler-free experience.”
Behind-the-Scenes Sneak Peeks
Instead of dropping major teasers, Oseman posted two spoiler-free behind-the-scenes photos — one of Nick Nelson’s bedroom set and another of her with Heartstopper producer Patrick Walters.
She also gave fans a rundown on the post-production status:
- ✔️ Picture editing is nearly complete
- 🌀 Work on animation, special effects, and music is now underway
- 🌍 The film will be dubbed in multiple languages, which will take several months
“Then we get to the fun bit for you guys,” Oseman teased, hinting at a major marketing campaign on the horizon.
Still, she admitted feeling the pressure, saying, “I’m very nervous and scared about what you’ll think of it… but that’s probably normal!”
The End of Nick & Charlie’s Journey?
Unlike the previous Heartstopper seasons — which closely followed Oseman’s published graphic novels — Heartstopper Forever will cover the final volume, Volume 6, which has yet to be released.
The upcoming film is expected to focus on Nick and Charlie navigating the challenges of long-distance love, as Nick heads to university while Charlie stays behind.

Filming & What’s Next
The final film wrapped shooting in July 2025, with scenes reportedly filmed at Leeds Train Station, sparking theories that Nick attends Leeds University.
After fans feared the series might be over following a six-month silence after Season 3, Netflix confirmed the story would conclude with Heartstopper Forever, delighting the show’s global fanbase.
