Kim Petras Responds to Nicki Minaj’s Anti-Trans Comments: “Trans Kids R Healthy Btw”

Kim Petras and Charli XCX have subtly responded to Nicki Minaj’s recent comments that many fans are calling anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ+, as the rapper continues to share her support for Donald Trump and conservative talking points.

On 12 December, Minaj escalated her stance by attacking California Governor Gavin Newsom after he reaffirmed his backing for trans children’s rights on The Ezra Klein Show.

“I want to see trans kids… There’s no governor that’s done more pro-trans legislation than I have. No one has been a stronger advocate for the LGBT community,” Newsom stated.

In response, Minaj mocked the governor, writing:

“Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids.

Haha. Not even a trans ADULT would run on that. Normal adults wake up & think they want to see HEALTHY, SAFE, HAPPY kids.”

“Not Gav. The Gav Nots. GavOUT. Send in the next guy, I’m bored,” she added, alongside an image of the Chucky doll.

Just minutes later, Minaj posted again, writing:

“Gavin is the cute boy who got everything handed to him b/c of how cute & sexy & hot & smoking he was.

Oohhh look @‘m. Sitting there in that suit with the sneakers on. He thinks he’s Tom Cruise only difference is, his next mission IS impossible.”

She concluded with a blunt:

“trans kids r healthy btw”

Despite backlash, Minaj insisted her support for Trump and his so-called defence of Christian values does not cancel out her support for the LGBTQ+ community.

However, many of her queer fans — including artists she has previously worked with — are pushing back.

Artists show subtle support for trans youth

Charli XCX, who recently collaborated with Minaj on the track “Brat”, appears to have unfollowed her on Instagram following the incident. Although some noted Minaj deactivated her account back in October 2025, fans viewed the move as symbolic.

Meanwhile, fans noticed that Kim Petras — a trans pop artist who collaborated with Minaj on the 2023 track Alone — had apparently removed the song from Spotify. One fan tweeted, “Kim Petras has taken down Alone featuring Nicki Minaj,” though others said it remained visible on their platforms, suggesting it may not have been officially removed.

Still, Petras posted what many interpret as a direct clapback on 13 December, just a day after Minaj’s remarks:

“trans kids r healthy btw”

The comment echoed Minaj’s earlier mockery but was instead used by Petras as an affirmation. Fans flooded her with support.

“Tell em mommy,” one follower replied.

“So glad you’re standing up for yourself. It’s disheartening to see such disgusting things being said from someone who worked with a trans [person] themselves,” another added.
