Boy George Eyes Eurovision 2026 — But Not for the UK

In a twist only Eurovision Song Contest could deliver, Boy George is in the running to compete in 2026 — but not for the United Kingdom.

Instead, the Culture Club frontman has been named among the “Big Artists” automatically qualified for the final of the San Marino Song Contest 2026, the microstate’s national selection process.

Yes — San Marino.

The final will take place on 6 March at Teatro Nuovo in Dogana, where a jury will determine which act earns the coveted ticket to Eurovision’s 70th edition.

Competing Alongside Senhit

Boy George is entering the competition with a track titled Superstar, performing alongside Senhit, who previously represented San Marino at Eurovision in 2011 and again in 2021.

San Marino has built a reputation for thinking outside the box when it comes to Eurovision — regularly opening its selection process to international artists. Still, the prospect of a British pop icon competing under the Sammarinese flag has raised eyebrows and delighted fans in equal measure.

For Eurovision followers, though, it’s all part of the spectacle. The contest has long been a space for reinvention, flamboyance and unexpected alliances.

A Queer Icon on a Glittering Stage

As the voice behind Culture Club classics like Karma Chameleon and Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, Boy George became one of the most recognisable figures of 1980s pop — and a defining icon of androgyny and queer visibility.

The idea of him stepping onto the Eurovision stage in 2026 feels fitting. The competition has consistently served as a glittering haven for LGBTQIA+ audiences, and the mere possibility of George appearing at its milestone 70th edition has already sent fans into a frenzy online.

The San Marino lineup this year, as always, blends established Italian and international names with emerging talent. But while being listed as a finalist guarantees George a place in the national final, he’ll still need to win on 6 March to secure San Marino’s Eurovision slot.

Whether or not he ultimately books his ticket to the grand final, one thing is certain: Eurovision drama has officially entered the chat.
