Drag Race Icon Victoria ‘Porkchop’ Parker Hospitalised After Severe Illness

RuPaul’s Drag Race icon Victoria ‘Porkchop’ Parker has launched an urgent fundraiser after becoming “extremely ill” following an intestinal infection she believes was caused by a contaminated burger.

In a statement shared on GoFundMe, Victor Bowling — the performer behind the beloved drag star — revealed they had experienced “very serious health setbacks”, including being hospitalised and placed in intensive care.

“After preparing a frozen hamburger patty from a major retailer, I became extremely ill,” the 56-year-old explained.

The following day, after suffering from vomiting, dehydration and diarrhoea, Porkchop was rushed by ambulance to Antelope Valley Medical Centre. She remained there for a week, bedridden and undergoing extensive testing as doctors worked to determine the cause of her condition.

Medical professionals later confirmed multiple serious diagnoses, including Hyponatremia, Acute Kidney Injury, Atrial Fibrillation and Hypertension.

Hyponatremia occurs when sodium levels in the blood drop dangerously low, while Acute Kidney Injury affects the kidneys’ ability to function properly and, if left untreated, can lead to kidney failure. Atrial fibrillation refers to an irregular heart rhythm, and hypertension is high blood pressure.

Porkchop was discharged from hospital on 8 March but has been instructed to rest at home until at least the end of the month.

“Although I am expected to make a full recovery, the journey ahead will be challenging. I am slowly relearning how to walk, and ongoing physical therapy is essential to help me rebuild my strength,” she shared.

The fundraiser aims to help cover recovery-related costs, including the purchase of a medical mobility scooter, which she said would “greatly improve [her] quality of life” and help restore some independence.

“Sometimes, a small act of kindness can make a world of difference. I have spent many years bringing joy to others, and now I find myself in need of support,” she added, thanking fans for their “generosity”.

At the time of writing, nearly $5,000 has been raised towards her $6,000 goal.

Support has also come from RuPaul’s Drag Race production company World of Wonder, which encouraged fans via Instagram to donate and help “support our legendary queen on her road to recovery”.

“Sending all of our love to Victoria ‘Porkchop’ Parker, who has experienced a serious health setback and was recently hospitalised,” the post read.

Fans have since called on the production company to fully fund the remaining amount, noting Porkchop’s iconic place in the show’s history.

As the first-ever queen eliminated on RuPaul’s Drag Race back in 2009, Porkchop became a lasting part of the franchise’s legacy. Early eliminations are now commonly referred to as “Porkchop queens”, and she has returned to the show multiple times as a guest, including a memorable appearance during the Snatch Game episode in season 13.
