A man has been arrested following an alleged shooting outside an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, last Wednesday (1 April).
Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident, according to local reports.
Police allege that 37-year-old Timothy James Truett opened fire outside Pulse Ultra Club, damaging a vehicle owned by the venue’s proprietor. The shooting reportedly shattered the rear passenger window and windscreen.
Authorities later stopped a vehicle matching surveillance footage linked to the incident. Truett was allegedly behind the wheel, and officers reportedly recovered a firearm and shell casings from the car.
Club owner Ken Phillips said his main concern remains the safety of those who visit the venue.
“My primary concern has and always will be the safety of my community and my customers. [The shooting has] given me great concern … as to how far people will go.”
Investigators have not publicly confirmed a motive. However, Truett is facing several charges, including possession of a weapon during a violent crime, discharging a firearm into a dwelling, damaging property and hate intimidation.
The case is believed to be the first time Myrtle Beach’s hate intimidation law has been used since it was introduced in 2024.
At the time of writing, Truett is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Centre on a bond of USD $312,174.
