NFL Team Owner Donates $1 Million to LGBTQ+ Youth Charity

Arthur Blank, owner of the Atlanta Falcons, has reportedly donated $1 million to The Trevor Project.

The contribution was made through the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation and was highlighted by former NFL player Carl Nassib, who came out as gay in 2021 while playing for the Las Vegas Raiders. Nassib has since worked closely with The Trevor Project, which supports LGBTQ+ young people in crisis.

“I am incredibly grateful to the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation for their extraordinary $1million donation to The Trevor Project and everyone at the Atlanta Falcons for their heartfelt support,” Nassib wrote in a 30 April LinkedIn post.

“This donation helps fund counsellor training, enhance volunteer services and ensure our critical programs reach LGBTQ+ youth in their most vulnerable moments. Thank you again to the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, this gift will save lives,” Nassib concluded.

Laurette M., who oversees The Trevor Project’s relationships with major donors, also shared a message thanking the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation for its support.

“It’s always powerful to see an organisation invest not only in the communities around it, but also in the culture it builds internally.

“Creating space for learning, reflection, and connection like this matters more than people often realise,” she wrote.

The donation represents a significant show of allyship in the NFL, a league that has often faced scrutiny over its record on LGBTQ+ inclusion.

No active NFL player has publicly come out since Nassib did so in 2021. Against that backdrop, high-profile support from figures such as Blank may help encourage a more inclusive culture across the sport, both on and off the field.
