Spain’s newly crowned World Cup champions have set queer social media alight after videos showed players kissing each other, embracing and becoming unusually affectionate with the trophy during their victory celebrations.
For the record, none of the 26 players in Spain’s World Cup-winning squad has publicly identified as gay or bisexual.
That has not stopped fans from enthusiastically analysing every kiss, lingering embrace and playful locker-room-style interaction shared during the team’s triumphant return to Madrid.
Spain secured its second men’s World Cup title on 19 July, defeating defending champion Argentina 1–0 after extra time in New Jersey. Substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute, while Argentina failed to register a shot during regulation time.
Nearly 1.8 million supporters reportedly lined the streets of Madrid for the champions’ homecoming parade, which ended with a major celebration at Cibeles Square.
Unai Simón Asks Yéremy Pino for a Kiss
One of the parade’s most widely shared clips featured goalkeeper Unai Simón asking teammate Yéremy Pino to “give me a kiss”.
Pino promptly obliged, planting a quick kiss on Simón as the pair celebrated together.
The moment quickly circulated among queer football fans, some of whom playfully treated the interaction as far more significant than two excited teammates sharing an affectionate moment after achieving a lifelong dream.
“Not only did he ask for a little peck, but at first he pretended to clash tongues and even left the guy shook because he planted a kiss on him straight up. Unai, my new protégé. Bisexual king,” one Spanish-speaking fan wrote online.

The comment was clearly playful rather than a factual statement about Simón’s sexuality.
Fans also joked that the parade may have provided more excitement for the goalkeeper than the final itself. Simón faced no shots during regulation time and only two across the additional 30 minutes as Spain controlled the match against Argentina.
Ferran Torres and Marc Pubill Share the Trophy
Another viral moment came when match-winner Ferran Torres and Marc Pubill kissed the World Cup trophy at the same time.
The unusual angle — and the distinctive shape of football’s most famous prize — immediately inspired a wave of comments.
“This photo is so 8/80 it’s so gay but so hetero at the same time,” one fan wrote.
Sharing another view of the moment, somebody else added: “Oh my God, this angle here made the photo 100% gay.”
Torres was photographed repeatedly kissing the trophy following Spain’s victory, while footage and images from the celebrations showed players cradling, embracing and passing the prize between them.

The trophy kisses were far from the only moments to attract attention.
Another clip showed one Spanish player wrapping his arms around a teammate’s waist as the pair swayed together during the celebrations.
“The thing about the Spanish national team being full of bisexual sl*ts, what is it?” one person joked.
Nico Williams also appeared in a video playfully slapping a teammate’s backside, prompting another admirer to write: “It’s men kissing, it’s men slapping another guy’s a*s… what a blessed squad!!”
Meanwhile, Torres and teammate Marcos Llorente continued celebrating during a beach trip to Ibiza, providing fans with yet more post-tournament content to discuss.
