It’s the last hurrah for the Rainbow Games in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland today, Sunday 1 November, with kickball finals on the court and a free closing party on Ponsonby Road tonight.
The Games kicked off on Thursday 29 October, and after four days of sport, sweat and new friendships, there’s still plenty left to enjoy.
Today is all about one more round of competition before everyone heads to Ponsonby to celebrate.
Kickball Finals Take Centre Stage
Emerald City Kickball’s two-day programme wraps up today at the University of Auckland’s HIWA Recreation Centre.
The format mixes beginner-friendly Give-It-A-Go sessions, social games and serious tournament play. Saturday’s seeding games against the visiting Australian teams set the rankings for today’s title showdown.
Never Played? Now’s Your Chance
If your own events are done and dusted, kickball is a great way to try something new and meet another crew of rainbow athletes.
Accessible, social and still competitive, it’s one more way the Games bring LGBTQ+ sportspeople together.
Party Time At Longroom
Players, supporters, team managers and the wider public are all invited to the closing celebration at Longroom, 114 Ponsonby Road, from 5pm to 9pm. Formalities start at 6pm.
Entry is free, but organisers ask everyone to register for a ticket first.
Celebrate The Games With Your Rainbow Whānau
Whether you competed, cheered from the sidelines or just want to soak up the atmosphere, tonight is the moment to toast the achievements of rainbow communities across Aotearoa and beyond.
Grab your free ticket and the full details on the Rainbow Games website. All times are NZDT.
