Kanye West has once again stirred controversy after making a cryptic statement in a video released on Friday — claiming to be gay while simultaneously criticising his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and their children.

In the video, which quickly went viral across social media platforms, West appeared wearing an all-black outfit and a black face mask. During his heated remarks, he made a statement that some interpreted as a coming out: “I ain’t got no motherf****** legacy, n****. Why the f*** do you think I’m s****ing out? I’m gay… [inaudible] in charge of my legacy, and I’m gay. I’m in charge of my legacy.”

However, social media users debated the clarity of his words, with many arguing he may have said “I’m Ye,” referring to his nickname, rather than “I’m gay.” The inaudible nature of parts of the clip has only fuelled further speculation online.

Custody Battle and Paris Hilton Remarks

West’s remarks came during another intense outburst related to his ongoing custody dispute with Kardashian. The couple’s strained relationship has often played out in public, and this latest video saw West expressing regret over their past together.

“Kim was Paris Hilton’s assistant. I should’ve had babies with Paris Hilton instead of Kim Kardashian!” he exclaimed in a Twitch livestream.

He went on to suggest that having children with Hilton would have benefitted him materially: “Could you imagine if I had kids with Paris Hilton? How many hotels would I have right now? Think about that. The Hilton. The Hilton s***.”

West, who shares four children with Kardashian, also expressed distress over the custody arrangements and being separated from his kids.

“‘I’mma go get these kids, bro. I’m talking to the lawyers — it gets to the point where I don’t lose my f***in’ mind where I got to get used to not seeing my kids,” he said, adding that hip-hop personality DJ Akademiks encouraged him to act. “I’mma go get these kids, man!”

What’s Next for Ye?

Despite the personal drama, West is reportedly travelling to Japan to work on new music. While he remains an enigmatic and divisive figure in popular culture, his latest remarks — whether misunderstood or deliberate — have once again placed him at the centre of public debate.
