Excitement is building as fans of Heartstopper were treated to surprise glimpses of Kit Connor and Joe Locke filming scenes for the upcoming feature-length Heartstopper film — the final instalment in the beloved queer Netflix series.
The film picks up where season three left off, with Nick Nelson (Connor) and Charlie Spring (Locke) navigating a turning point in their relationship. As fans may recall, Nick faced a decision about which university to attend, while Charlie stayed behind to finish school at Truham Grammar.
The fourth season of Heartstopper will not be released as a standard series. Instead, it’s been reimagined as a film, with filming already underway — confirmed by creator Alice Oseman and production company See-Saw Films.
Sweet Reunions and Fan Frenzy in Leeds
Although much of the production has remained under wraps, Oseman has been sharing spoiler-free updates via Instagram. That changed when eagle-eyed fans recently spotted the stars filming on location in Leeds, including scenes at the Leeds train station and through the city’s Lower Briggate area — known for its queer venues like Queen’s Court.
A video shared on TikTok captured Connor and Locke filming a heartfelt reunion scene at the station. Connor appeared in Nick’s signature hoodie and jeans, while Locke wore jeans and a burgundy shirt. The pair embraced in a hug that clearly reflected their characters’ long separation.
“Never been so thankful for a delayed train,” wrote the TikTok user who captured the scene.
Long-Distance Love in Focus
Fans quickly jumped into speculation mode:
“CHARLIE VISITING NICK AT UNI YESSS,” one guessed.
“SO NICK CHOOSES LEEDS UNIVERSITY???” shouted another.
Another clip shows the two characters walking hand in hand in Lower Briggate — Locke in a new shirt, Connor in a vest top — clearly portraying a reunion in a queer-friendly part of the city.
The final film is expected to explore whether Nick and Charlie’s relationship can survive long-distance challenges, a storyline that mirrors the upcoming sixth and final volume of Oseman’s Heartstopper graphic novel series.
While no official release date has been confirmed, filming is well underway, and fans are soaking up every behind-the-scenes moment they can get.
