Did Troye Sivan and Connor Franta Ever Date? New Clues Resurface from the Past

Before Troye Sivan became a global pop sensation, selling out arenas alongside Charli XCX, he was a teenage YouTuber with a camera, chasing creative dreams. Immersed in the vibrant YouTube scene, he collaborated with well-known creators like Tyler Oakley, Zoella, and Hannah and Mamrie Hart. Around the same time, fellow YouTuber Connor Franta—who had just exited the content group Our2ndLife (O2L)—began appearing more frequently in Sivan’s life, both online and offline.

The pair regularly featured in each other’s videos and spent time together, sparking widespread speculation about whether they were just mates or something more. As the internet tends to do, fans “shipped” the two—imagining and hoping they were in a romantic relationship.

Fast forward to more recent times, and a surprising twist has added fuel to the long-standing rumours—with singer Chappell Roan at the centre of it.

In August last year, Franta joined the Obsessed with Brooke Averick podcast, where he reflected on discovering Roan back in 2014. He shared, “We found the song, it had like no plays, but her voice was unbelievable… so we started tweeting about it, like: ‘This girl is incredible.’ We were like ‘She’s the next Adele.’” He casually mentioned that he made the discovery with his “boyfriend at the time”.

This comment prompted fans to revisit an old post from Sivan in 2014. In it, he shared a photo of himself with Franta and Roan, captioned, “I’ve had a 16-year-old girl on repeat for two months.” The resurfaced post was seen by many as a confirmation of the duo’s past romance, though neither had previously addressed it.

Then, in a recent Instagram post, Sivan shared a photo carousel that included a cropped version of that same picture—Roan remained in the frame, but Franta was noticeably absent.

He clarified in a cheeky comment: “FYI I found that pic online doing my weekly Google of ‘Troye Sivan and Chappell Roan’, not my crop!!!!!”

The next day, Franta seemingly responded by uploading his own version of the same image—this time with Sivan cropped out—captioned “My good side.”

The phrase “my good side” raised eyebrows, as many fans believe it references Sivan’s song “The Good Side” from his 2018 album Bloom—a track widely speculated to be about Franta and their supposed breakup.

In a candid interview with Zane Lowe at the time, Sivan described the song as a breakup reflection:

“I was going through a breakup. Just the nature of breakups, one person is always going to get the shorter end of the stick. I got lucky, and I think I do have guilt about that.”

“It’s sort of a letter to that person to express apologies and sympathy and if I could change this at all, I would’ve,” he continued. “So I’m hoping that this song, a couple years down the line, is going to serve as a cathartic experience for the both of us… whenever we’re ready to move on, let’s do that.”

While neither Franta nor Sivan have directly confirmed a past relationship, the latest breadcrumbs have reignited fan speculation—and in the world of internet nostalgia, that’s often more than enough.
