Boots Stars Tease Possible Season Two of Queer Netflix Hit

⚠️ Spoiler warning: This article contains spoilers for all episodes of Boots.

The stars of Netflix’s queer military drama Boots have shared their hopes for a second season, as fans continue to praise the series for its emotional depth and powerful storytelling.

Since its debut on 9 October, Boots has been hailed by both critics and audiences as one of Netflix’s most quietly affecting queer dramas of the year. Our review praised the series as “a beautiful exploration of masculinity, friendship, and self-acceptance in the face of fear.”

Life, Love, and Survival in Boots

Set in 1990, Boots follows Miles Heizer (13 Reasons Why, Love, Simon) as Cameron Cope, a closeted teenager who joins the U.S. Marine Corps in search of purpose and belonging.

Alongside his best friend Ray (played by newcomer Liam Oh), Cameron faces the harsh realities of bootcamp — gruelling training, unrelenting discipline, and the constant threat of being exposed as gay in a military that criminalises his identity.

Among his toughest challenges is Sgt. Sullivan (played by Emmerdale star Max Parker), a volatile instructor whose tough-love approach hides a secret of his own. As the series unfolds, their complicated dynamic becomes the heart of the story.

By the final episode, Cameron and his fellow recruits complete their training just as news breaks that Iraq has invaded Kuwait, marking the beginning of the Gulf War. The closing scenes hint that this could be just the start of their journey.

The Cast Weighs In on a Potential Season Two

While Boots has not yet been officially renewed by Netflix, both Heizer and Parker are open to continuing the story.

Speaking to Radio Times, Parker said there’s “so much more” to explore about Sullivan’s fate and his relationship with Cameron.

“There are so many ways it could go for all of our characters,” Parker said. “That moment at the end where I hand over the walkie-talkie to Cameron—it’s like passing the baton. He could be handing himself in, he could be running away, he could do anything.”

Heizer agreed that a second season could take the series in bold new directions — possibly even exploring a romance for Cameron.

“It would be interesting to see him navigating that, especially in this military world,” Heizer said. “Like Max said, there are so many different directions it could go. But just for fun, I’d love to see a little romance.”

From The Pink Marine to Boots

Boots is based on Greg Cope White’s memoir, The Pink Marine, which recounts his real-life experience as a closeted gay man training in the Marines in the late 1970s.

All of the memoir’s key material was adapted for the first season, which has led some to question whether a second season would have enough source content to build on.

However, as the series shifted its timeline to 1990, White and the show’s creative team clearly demonstrated a willingness to expand the story beyond the original book — suggesting there may still be room to explore new chapters in Cameron’s journey.

What’s Next for Boots?

With its heartfelt performances, queer representation, and layered storytelling, Boots has struck a chord with viewers worldwide.

Whether Netflix decides to greenlight a second season or not, the series has already made its mark — celebrating vulnerability, resilience, and the power of found family.

All eight episodes of Boots are now streaming on Netflix.
