Heartstopper’s Kit Connor Joins Cast of Andrew Haigh’s New Film A Long Winter

Heartstopper star Kit Connor has officially joined the cast of acclaimed filmmaker Andrew Haigh’s next project, A Long Winter.

The 21-year-old British actor will reunite with his Warfare co-star D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai and Gladiator II’s Fred Hechinger for the upcoming drama, according to a report published by Deadline on Wednesday, 22 October.

While Connor’s specific role remains under wraps, the film’s plot is slowly taking shape. A Long Winter is said to follow Louise, the alcoholic mother of Mike (played by Hechinger) and Tommy, who vanishes after a heated argument with her husband Lester. Setting out with her dog, Louise attempts to reach her brother Frank’s home several miles away — just as a severe snowstorm hits.

“When a snowstorm blows up suddenly and socks in the entire area, Lester and Mike begin a search that soon expands with the aid of local neighbours and law enforcement,” the synopsis adds.

Haigh, best known for All of Us Strangers and 45 Years, has both written the screenplay and will direct the film.

Kit Connor’s Career Keeps Climbing

Kit Connor rose to international stardom playing Nick Nelson, a kind-hearted bisexual rugby player, in Netflix’s adaptation of Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper, which premiered in 2022. The hit teen romance has since become a global queer phenomenon.

Oseman has confirmed that Heartstopper will conclude with a feature-length film titled Heartstopper Forever, focusing on Nick and Charlie’s (played by Joe Locke) transition into adulthood. The final chapter promises to explore more mature themes as the couple “hurtle towards their adult lives.”

Connor has since been busy both on screen and on stage. He starred in Warfare alongside Woon-A-Tai and made his Broadway debut in Romeo + Juliet.

Coming up, Connor is set to appear in a string of high-profile projects, including:

  • A live-action adaptation of the fantasy video game Elden Ring
  • The zombie thriller Rapture
  • YA adaptation A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow
  • Thriller One of Us
