Red, White & Royal Blue 2: What We Know About the Sequel So Far

“History, huh?” Get ready for the royal wedding edition. Amazon MGM Studios has officially confirmed fresh details about the highly anticipated sequel to the hit LGBTQ+ romantic comedy Red, White & Royal Blue. While news of the sequel first broke during a May 2024 FYC event for the original film, a new statement this week has reignited fan excitement.

Though the original Red, White & Royal Blue film covered the entirety of Casey McQuiston’s bestselling 2019 novel — which has no written sequels — this follow-up film will chart brand-new territory. That means every scene and storyline in Red, White & Royal Blue 2 will be experienced by audiences for the very first time.

Here’s everything we know so far about this long-awaited return to the world of Alex and Prince Henry.

Will Nicholas Galitzine Return as Prince Henry?

Yes! Nicholas Galitzine is confirmed to reprise his role as the charming Prince Henry.

Since appearing in Red, White & Royal Blue, Galitzine has become one of Hollywood’s busiest rising stars, with roles in The Idea of You, 100 Nights of Hero, Mary & George, and the upcoming Masters of the Universe live-action reboot.

Is Taylor Zakhar Perez Back as Alex?

Absolutely. Taylor Zakhar Perez will return as Alex Claremont-Diaz, the charismatic First Son of the United States.

Perez — affectionately known as TZP by fans — has skyrocketed to fame, previously starring in The Kissing Booth 2 and Minx. He’s also become a fashion favourite on red carpets.

What’s the Official Title?

The sequel has been officially titled: Red, White & Royal Wedding.

Yes, we’re talking full queer royal nuptials realness.

Who’s Directing the Sequel?

Red, White & Royal Wedding will be directed by Jamie Babbit, whose previous credits include But I’m a Cheerleader, Only Murders in the Building, and Prime Video’s A League of Their Own.

Matthew López, who directed the first film, is stepping aside from directing duties this time but remains deeply involved in the project.

Is Casey McQuiston Still Involved?

Yes! Both Casey McQuiston (author of the original novel) and Matthew López are co-writing the screenplay for the sequel, ensuring that the film remains rooted in the voice and vision that fans know and love.

Has Filming Started?

It sure has. While there’s no official release date yet, production began in January 2026.

This was confirmed via a surprise social media video featuring both Galitzine and Perez — and yes, the fans (and internet) went wild.

As the caption read:

“SO beyond back.”

And so are we.
