The body of a popular LGBTQ+ TikTok creator has been discovered in a forest near the Thailand–Myanmar border, with local authorities investigating the case as a suspected premeditated killing.
Ko Tin Zaw Htwe, also known online as Irrawaddy Ma, was 25 years old and had amassed close to one million followers on TikTok. Originally from Myanmar, he was known for sharing lifestyle content, fashion looks, dance videos, and product reviews.
According to local media reports, Tin Zaw Htwe’s body was found on 20 January beneath a tree in the Mae Sot district of western Thailand, an area bordering Myanmar. A local resident reportedly discovered the body and immediately alerted police.
Thai news outlets reported that the influencer was found face down with visible injuries, and investigators believe he was beaten to death. A blood-stained wooden object found nearby is being treated as the suspected murder weapon.
Police examining the scene also reportedly recovered personal items, including cosmetics, a bag, and an empty alcohol bottle. His jewellery and mobile phone were missing.
Medical examiners told The Bangkok Post that his injuries showed signs of severe trauma consistent with being struck by a hard object.
Last Known Movements
Sources close to Tin Zaw Htwe said he went missing on 18 January, after receiving a call via social media from someone requesting help. He reportedly left his accommodation late at night and never returned.
Investigators believe he may have been lured to a secluded location, suggesting the attack was planned in advance.
Mae Sot police have confirmed that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the case, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive, but have not ruled out the possibility that Tin Zaw Htwe was targeted.
