About

If you’re looking for a truly wild experience, make your way to Ōtepoti | Dunedin—the Wildlife Capital of New Zealand!

Ike & Jerad look forward to welcoming you to The OPERA—Otago Peninsula Eco Restoration Alliance, a private eco-reserve where you can experience conservation, rehabilitation, restoration, and education in action.

Guests are guided along scenic tracks and trails that connect to purpose-built hides and lookout points, offering opportunities to view native flora and fauna. Wildlife sightings often include penguins, fur seals, forest and seabirds, all set against breathtaking coastal landscapes. You can join one of our 1.5 or 2 .5 hour group tours, or enjoy a private tour experience. Tours include visiting our Penguin Rehabilitation Centre where we care for sick and injured penguins on their journey back to the wild, including the rarest penguin in the world, the hoiho (yellow-eyed penguin). Visit  www.theopera.co.nz for details.

You can also get up closer to Southern Ocean wildlife with our sister company, Monarch Wildlife Cruises & Tours, offering a curated range of land and sea experiences. MORE INFO HERE

We also encourage you to consider how you can help us protect and preserve the unique flora, fauna, and ecosystems in New Zealand through the Otago Shore & Land Trust which supports our conservation, rehabilitation, restoration and education mahi.

Visit www.otagoshoreandland.org to see how you can get involved. Among the projects being undertaken by the trust is supporting the ecological restoration from paddocks back to native forest and grasslands, as well as the rewilding of 250+ hectares (850 acres) on the Otago Peninsula where The OPERA operates.
