Bree Tomasel has announced her engagement to partner Sophia Gould, sharing joyful images of the proposal on Instagram.

The ZM radio star and co-host of Bree & Clint revealed she popped the question at Te Pare Point, captioning the post: “Plot twist: she said yes.”

The photos, taken on Sunday, show Tomasel down on one knee in front of Gould, followed by snapshots of the happy couple celebrating and a close-up of the engagement ring.

Friends and Colleagues Celebrate

Messages of congratulations quickly flooded in from friends and media personalities.

Madeleine Sami wrote, “Congratssss legends!” while Toni Street commented, “I was listening to this live… congratulations you two.”

Ben Boyce added, “Oh this is the best news ever! Like the Warriors it’s your year! Much love to you both.”

Meanwhile, Tomasel’s co-host Clint Roberts responded with a stunned: “WHAT?!?”

From Dating App to ‘Yes’

The couple first met in 2018 via a dating app. In a 2023 interview with Woman’s Day, they shared that their romance began with Tomasel opening with the line: “Are you good at maths?”

“She always makes fun of my first line I wrote on the app. But it clearly worked,” Tomasel said at the time.

Their first date took place at a bar on Auckland’s Karangahape Road, with Tomasel describing the relationship as “a slow burn”.

“We didn’t rush into anything. We were both a bit guarded as we didn’t want to get hurt. But after that, we ended up hanging out pretty constantly.

“Sophia’s one of the most loyal people I’ve ever met. We all go through some s***ty situations, hard relationships, break-ups or whatever, but I’ve never felt like Sophia would ever do something like that to me, which is something so rare.”

Gould previously described Tomasel as “super-loving and generous”.

“She’s so giving to everyone, not just me. And obviously she’s hilarious. Whenever I’m sad, she does a dance!”

From dating app banter to a seaside proposal, it seems the maths really did add up.
