Spanish pop star Rosalía has revealed that her dating “type” is gay men, sharing the humorous admission during a candid conversation about relationships and attraction.
The singer made the remark while speaking with Argentine author Mariana Enríquez in a filmed discussion for Spotify’s A/Presenta series, a platform highlighting the creative processes and inspirations behind Latin music. The interview was recorded in Buenos Aires last year.
During the conversation, Enríquez asked Rosalía a straightforward question: “What is the quality you like most in men?”
Rosalía responded with a laugh: “That he’s gay.”
The comment prompted laughter from both women, with Enríquez quickly adding: “Well, that makes two of us.”
The moment set the tone for a broader conversation about attraction. Rosalía went on to explain that she finds it unusual when people separate the qualities they look for in men and women.
“It is kind of funny that they separate the two,” she said, explaining that the first thing that usually comes to mind is simply what stands out most in a person, regardless of gender.
When the conversation turned the question back on Enríquez — asking what she finds appealing in women — the author responded: “Sense of humour.”
Rosalía has previously spoken openly about relationships while maintaining that she does not feel pressure to define her sexuality with labels.
In an interview with Elle magazine last year, the Catalan singer-songwriter said she prioritises personal freedom over categorising her identity.
“I think of freedom. That’s what guides me,” she said.
The musician has also spoken about her past relationship with actor Hunter Schafer, whom she dated briefly in 2019. Schafer later reflected on their relationship during a 2024 interview with GQ, saying the pair remain close.
“We have a beautiful friendship,” Schafer said, adding that Rosalía will always be “family, no matter what”.
Rosalía’s career has continued to expand beyond music. Known for collaborations with artists including Billie Eilish and Bad Bunny, she is also stepping further into acting.
The star is set to appear in the third season of HBO’s drama Euphoria, joining a cast that includes Schafer as well as new additions Sharon Stone, Trisha Paytas, Natasha Lyonne, Danielle Deadwyler, Eli Roth and Marshawn Lynch.
