Urge’s King’s Birthday weekend Underwear Party left very little to the imagination, with the sold-out event packing Centurian to capacity on Sunday 31 May.
After demand surged and tickets disappeared eight days out, Urge Events moved the party to Centurian on Symonds Street, where partygoers embraced the brief in every sense. Jocks, briefs, boxers, harnesses and binders filled the venue, as the dress code delivered maximum skin, sweaty bodies and zero inhibitions.
Across the night, DJs Butter Chick and Everett Wayne kept the main room pumping with thumping beats, while the bar, sauna and play areas created what organiser Paul Heard described to YOUR EX as “a very European vibe”.
“It was a great success and collaboration between us two,” Heard said, praising Centurian’s team as “excellent” and noting the mix of “socialising in the bar, dancing in the main room and making many new acquaintances in the sauna and play areas”.
With a cuddle room, coat check included, and a crowd more than ready to strip down and let loose, the night proved there is a clear appetite for this kind of cheeky, body-positive queer gathering.
“Really, we’ve developed a new niche for an event like Underwear,” Heard added.
Tickets for Urge’s next Underwear Party, planned for Labour Weekend in October, go on sale in July — and after this one sold out well in advance, organisers are expecting another rush.
