Former US vice president Kamala Harris surprised Pride revellers on Saturday evening with an unexpected visit to The Abbey in West Hollywood.
Harris arrived at the iconic LGBTQ+ bar and restaurant at around 6.30pm, accompanied by her husband Doug Emhoff and a security team.
She did not make any formal remarks, but moved through the venue greeting surprised diners, shaking hands and wishing people a “Happy Pride”.
Drag performer Misty Violet, who had hosted The Abbey’s popular weekend brunch earlier in the day, introduced Harris and Emhoff as they circulated through the crowd.
“Thanks for being at The Abbey with us, thanks for celebrating Pride with us,” Violet said over the microphone.
The Abbey was decked out in rainbow flags for Pride Month. WeHo Pride had taken place the previous weekend, while LA Pride was in full swing at the time of Harris’ visit.
Harris and Emhoff, who live in Los Angeles, reportedly stayed for about 15 minutes before leaving.
The Abbey is no stranger to celebrity and political appearances.

Madonna visited the venue in April to promote her upcoming album Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part II, while The Abbey also recently celebrated its 35th anniversary with a star-studded party attended by figures including Christina Aguilera and Nicole Scherzinger.
Before Harris arrived, increased security at the venue sparked speculation among patrons that a major celebrity was about to appear. Some reportedly guessed it might be Ariana Grande, who was performing Los Angeles dates on her Eternal Sunshine Tour over the weekend.
Harris has visited The Abbey before. In 2019, she stopped by while serving as a US senator and presidential candidate.
She later served as vice president and became the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024 against Donald Trump.
Harris has not announced whether she will run for the presidency again, although recent polling has shown her as a leading potential Democratic contender for 2028.
For those at The Abbey on Saturday, however, the moment was less about campaign speculation and more about Pride visibility, queer joy and a very unexpected celebrity walk-through.
