Description
In 1986, New Zealand passed a landmark piece of legislation that decriminalised consensual relations between men aged 16 and older, establishing a uniform age of consent and laying the groundwork for the human rights protections that followed. This year marks 40 years since that milestone, and MOTAT is celebrating with a range of activities for the whole whānau.
Artist Ingrid Anderson will be live screen printing at Aviation Hall with the option of a book bag or tea towel, both by kōha donation. Our Print Shop has also produced commemorative bookmarks for the occasion, free while stocks last.
At 2pm, we'll be joined by author Brad Poulter for a reading and signing of his new memoir, Built for This. Brad is a New Zealand writer, veteran, and culture leader who served nearly 20 years in the Royal New Zealand Navy, later moving into culture and inclusion work within the New Zealand Defence Force. Built for This is an honest, funny, and at times heartfelt account of his journey from small-town New Zealand to serving in Afghanistan, and of embracing his sexuality alongside the Navy's own evolution into one of the most inclusive defence forces in the world.
Copies of Built for This are available from the MOTAT shop, with a 10% discount for MOTAT mates.
Included in general admission.
