Description

Visit Britomart and step inside the fabulous world where drag meets fashion. This outdoor exhibition displayed on Britomart’s Pavilion Panels features life-size portraits of 13 remarkable performers – from legendary K Road queens to rising stars, drag kings to TikTok sensations – each wearing a colour from the Pride Progress flag.

Discover the artistry, creativity, and incredible mahi behind every look, from hand-sewn costumes to custom couture. Through stunning photography by Denise Baynham and personal stories from each performer (accessible via QR codes), explore how drag performers transform identity through fashion, one show-stopping outfit at a time.

Co-curated by drag pioneer Edward Cowley (Buckwheat) and NZ photographer Denise Baynham, this exhibition celebrates the heart of drag: self-expression, community, and the love that goes into every transformation. You will find the Pavilion Panels located on Te Ara Tāhuhu Walkway, spanning Gore, Galway, Commerce and Tyler Street. Wander through this leafy oasis in the heart of Britomart at your leisure and immerse yourself in the stories, style, and soul of Aotearoa's drag community.

Inside the Closet is a New Zealand Fashion Museum project to celebrate Pride 2026 and will be available to view throughout the month of February.
