Sam Brooks has been nominated as a finalist in the Outstanding New Playwright category of Wellington’s Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards for his play Riding In Cars With (Mostly Straight) Boys.
Riding in Cars with (Mostly Straight) Boys centres on a young gay man Kyle (played by Dan Veint) who keeps falling for his apparently unattainable straight friends, all played by Callum Gittens.
The play is set in a car and performed outside in a carpark. It premiered in a carpark behind Te Papa at Wellington Fringe this year, before moving to The Basement carpark in Auckland during the 2014 Pride Festival.
Gittens has also been nominated for Supporting Actor of the Year for his multiple roles in the play.
The winners of the Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards will be announced on Sunday 14 December at Paramount Theatre in Wellington.
