Farmers will introduce gender-neutral changing rooms into its stores  in response to an investigation into insensitive treatment of an Auckland Trans Woman.

Farmers is set to introduce gender neutral changing rooms into its stores after Auckland woman Mary Haddock-Staniland’s was the victim of transphobic abuse at their Botany branch in June.

Ms Haddock-Staniland was trying on shorts at the branch when she overheard a shop assistant ask colleagues if it was okay to let “half-man, half-woman” into the women’s changing rooms.

The company is currently reviewing its signage to ensure its reflective of its gender-neutral policy.
